If we took all cartridges regardless of their value, we wouldn’t be able to make any money for our partner charities because of the costs in handling, treatment and disposal.
Instead, Cartridges 4 Charity works by asking you to identify your cartridges, and sort them: only sending us the ones we can reuse. For any other cartridges, we give you helpful information on other recycling services available, most of which are free.
For just a couple of minutes of your time this greatly increases the charitable outcomes, and the environmental benefit. The average difference to our charities is measured in the £s, and there are plenty of environmental benefits of sorting your cartridges to go to different places to be used in the most environmentally-friendly way possible.

If you are responsible for many printers in an office, we recommend that in future each time you change over a cartridge, you check what to do with the empty one on our quick online checker. Or you can ask the individual staff who change over the cartridges to do this at the time themselves.
Services where you do not need to sort your cartridges are available, but none of them are free because of the necessary costs involved in processing, handling and disposal.
