Donate Ink Cartridges for Recycling
There is also a printable poster version to pin-up or give to someone else.
Just to confirm: Inkjet Cartridges are the type which should fit easily into one hand, and *most* can be sent to our freepost address.
Laser Toner Cartridges, which are about a foot-long, we kindly ask you NOT to send to our freepost address under any circumstances, but to deal with them separately - here.
Step 1. Can We Recycle Yours?
Firstly, please check that we can recycle what you send - or the extra unnecessary postage and disposal costs will just reduce the money going to use in the good causes.
Cartridges That Cannot Be Reused
If your cartridges appear in this list, or you see them in the pictures below (click them for a bigger picture), please do not send them to us. Please DO NOT send:
  • ANY Epson cartridges

  • Brother cartridges

  • Foot-Long Sized Laser/Toner/Laserjet Cartridges

  • Canon BCI Cartridges (they have no metal printhead on them)

  • HP No 10/11/12/13/14, 88, or 363s

  • Any compatible/recycled/remanufactured or already refilled cartridge

  • Any other cartridge without a metal printhead

Cartridges That Can Be Reused
Please do send your cartridges if they are not in the list above, and they are made by these manufacturers:
  • Hewlett Packard (HP) - except those mentioned above
  • Canon - except Canon BCI cartridges
  • Lexmark
  • Dell
  • Samsung
Unsure?
If you're at all unsure, or your cartridges do not appear in either list above, then drop us a line and we'll be happy to help!
Step 2. Packaging Information
Use A Jiffy Bag
Envelopes often get torn or damaged. A jiffy bag (everyone has one lying around somewhere) protects the contents.
Keep Package Size To A Minimum
Royal Mail now charge based on weight and size so keep the package compact if possible.
Wrap Your Cartridges
Unfortunately, damaged cartridges are worthless, and cartridges are fragile. So please use some newspaper or the original packaging to individually wrap your items.
Remove Tape from the Printhead
Please do not put any tape over the fragile printhead, as it causes colour mixing in colour cartridges, and damage to the printhead.
Include Your Email...
Just incase, please include your email address and name on a slip of paper - then, we can contact you:
  • if there are problems with the cartridges you send or the packaging
  • to update you on the project and changes to donation instructions
  • to thank you for your donations!
We promise to keep your details safe and not pass them on.
Step 3. Finally...
Once you've got your hands on a suitable Jiffy bag or similar, you can put up to 7 cartridges in each mailing item, and you have two choices about how to address it, and then simply post!
The FREEPOST Address
For your convenience, you can send your cartridges to this address with no need to pay for postage, as we pay for it for you - simply write this address clearly on the Jiffy bag - please check above that we can recycle your cartridges first - no Epson cartridges please: (printable version)
