» Empty Ink Cartridge Service
This free-to-use UK service accepts most cartridges from ink printers (the type normally found in homes and small offices) to put them to reuse, or recycling if they cannot be reused. We take both empty and unused cartridges.
- This service is a better deal for the environment: most cartridges are reused, and reusing saves more energy than recycling.
- Your cartridges will make a social difference: most undamaged cartridges will raise £1.00 - £4.00 for our three partner charities.
First, Check Your Cartridges
We can only accept certain models of cartridge for reuse, so please use these 4 steps to ensure you're sending us things we can use before you send anything.
1. Ink Cartridges?
This service is only for ink cartridges. Ink cartridges are:
- smaller than the size of a clenched fist
- normally from small home or home-office style printers
- AND use a liquid ink [not a dry 'toner' powder]
N.B. If you have any larger cartridges which use toner powder - 'toner' / 'laser' cartridges found in larger office printers - please send these separately to us via our Toner Cartridge Recycling Service, even if you also have ink cartridges.
2. Find Your Cartridge's Model Number
The model number is a short code displayed clearly on the front of the cartridge, or on the cartridge's box, or will be listed in your printer's instructions for replacing cartridges.
3. Original or Compatible?
- Original cartridges are:
- made by the original manufacturer of the printer
- clearly display that manufacturer's logo on the cartridge and box
- and have not been refilled or reused yet - Compatible (remanufactured) cartridges have:
- been refilled, 'remanufactured' or reused
- OR made by a company that is not the printer manufacturer
4. Check With the List
Any cartridges you send us must be on this list, and show a
for the type of cartridge you have (original or compatible). See sending instructions below.
If you have any with a
or not on this list, please do not send - instead, read our alternative solutions guide to dispose of these in a responsible way.

Not on this list = please do not send.
Instead, read our alternative solutions guide to recycle these.
And, Send!
Please only send cartridges which you have checked are eligible, as above. If you are unsure, please drop us an email.
1. Find an Envelope
Please reuse an existing strong envelope or Jiffy bag to send your cartridges.
This is much more environmentally-friendly than producing new plastic recycling envelopes to send to you, and you can send your cartridges away right now.
2. Attach the Freepost Postal Label
Please print and attach this postal label: no stamps are required, as it is a freepost address.
Your envelope must clearly show the printed barcode, or "A/C: 09080512094501" if you are handwriting the address, in order for your cartridges to qualify for the charity donation.
3. Send
And then pat yourself on the back! Thank you - you've just helped charity and the environment.
Any time you want to send again, please revisit this web site, as our accepted cartridges change in the first week of each month and these instructions are liable to change. Sign up for email updates below if you'd like to be kept in-the-loop.
Keep Up to Date
To keep up to date with our services and the charities - for example, when the list of accepted cartridges changes - please give us your email address for occasional mailings.
You'll get no more than one message a month, you can unsubscribe in one click using a link at the bottom of our mailings, and your details will not be passed on.
